Community Outreach Program (COP)
The COP continues to grow each week. Each Wednesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., neighborhood children and children from Westside Elementary come to FUMC to get homework help, tutoring, fellowship, music and a warm meal. Our previous success with the ROIL (Reaching Out In Love) program has significantly continued the start up success of COP. Most of the children from the ROIL program are continuing through the COP. The COP has been a perfect fit for Fairview to minister to children in the neighborhood and surrounding elementary school.
Your continued support of prayer is greatly appreciated as we seek out other Methodist churches to assist with the preparation and serving of the meal each evening and also the enlistment of more volunteers for tutoring. Currently our tutors include: Mike Caldwell, Cheryl Eubanks, Becky Fariss, Myrteen Heslep, Roger Heslep, Alm Lenoir, Janet Richards, Vickie Rowe. These folks have volunteered to work along side our children to assist them with the many areas of their homework. Many times the children just need to read to someone or have very basic tutoring needs. Our Fairview tutors give of their time and talents through this program on a weekly and monthly basis.
If you would like to assist with helping children through this program, please call Pastor Don at the church office. Volunteering even once a month to help a child is such a rewarding experience and you will enjoy the fellowship of getting to know some of the students that are in need of this help that we provide through COP. If you would like to volunteer or need additional information, please contact Pastor Don at the church office.
